Owner & Electrician
When it comes to variety, Daniel’s in his absolute element. Give him an electrical project with moving parts, mystery gremlins, or something that makes everyone else go “yeah nah,” and he’s grinning like a kid in a pet shop. If it keeps him thinking, problem-solving, and doing something different every day, he’s a happy little sparkie.
For Daniel, there is no other career—it’s electrician or nothing, and that passion shows in everything he does. But if he had to swap jobs for a day, he’d pick Nathan’s gig as Social Media Cadet, because “his job is just for fun, and I love creating that stuff.”
His most underrated tool? His brain—sharp, creative, and usually three steps ahead of the rest of us. Pair that with his personal motto, “Do it once, do it properly,” and you’ve got someone who sets the bar so high the rest of us need a ladder.
Despite everyone calling him “the boss,” Daniel’s not one to sit back—he’s hands-on, approachable, and always up for a yarn with the team. Nothing makes him prouder than hearing a customer say, “Your team are amazing,” because that’s exactly the kind of crew he’s built at Smart elec: solid, reliable, and good for a laugh.

Lisa
Estimator
If there’s one thing you can count on from our Estimator, Lisa, it’s that she’ll get it done—no matter what comes her way. Always eager to learn something new, Lisa thrives on challenges that push her to grow every single day. Her “never give up” attitude perfectly sums up her work style (and probably explains why her job would be a Rocky movie).
Armed with her most underrated weapon—the humble calculator—Lisa keeps things running smoothly, even when faced with the oddest of requests (yes, including once being asked to deliver KFC to Cooktown via Skytrans!). Her go-to productivity hack, the simple but powerful 5 Minute Rule, keeps her focused and motivated.
When she’s not crunching numbers or conquering new challenges, you’ll find Lisa enjoying her favourite—Chicken Caesar Salad with anchovies and a dash of Tabasco. And if she ever took a different career path, you’d probably spot her tearing up the track as a V8 Supercar driver.
Down to earth, determined, and always ready with a smile, Lisa brings a no-nonsense yet good-humoured approach to everything she does.

Courtney
Administrator
If there’s a big, complex administration job that needs a ton of behind-the-scenes work, Courtney is in her element. She loves staying busy and tackling the challenges that keep everything running smoothly at Smart elec. Her secret weapon? A ruler — not just for straight lines, but also for the occasional back scratch when things get hectic!
If her job were a movie, it’d be The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, because every day brings a bit of everything. Her productivity hack is simple but effective: write everything down so nothing gets forgotten.
Courtney laughs at the common misconception that office work is easy — as she says, “there’s always something that needs doing.” Describing her work style as adaptable, driven, and a little chaotic, Courtney thrives in the fast-paced, people-focused environment at Smart elec.
What really makes her smile: customers who praise the entire team — from the office staff to the field crew. It happens often, but it never gets old.
Kirsty
Finance Officer
Consistent, diligent, and efficient, Kirsty is the not-so-quiet Finance Officer who keeps the numbers in line and the finances on track. Her favourite kind of challenge? Reconciling accounts and prepping financial reports for the boss—the kind of work that makes most people cry but makes her feel right at home.
A strong believer in keeping it simple, Kirsty swears by the desk diary as the most underrated office essential – it gets used every day. When it’s time to focus, her go-to productivity hack is simple: earphones in, volume up, and power through.
If her extensive office life has taught her anything, it’s that people who say “office work is boring” have clearly never been in the right office—there’s plenty of laughter at the Smart elec office. If you were to ever bribe Kirsty into doing something, anything chocolate works a treat or Northern Star Thai’s Tamarind Prawns are the way to go (she will gladly eat your food but not complete the bribe).
In an alternate universe, Kirsty would be styling interiors or creating eye-catching displays as a visual merchandiser. In this universe, if her job were a movie, it would be titled The Muppets – A Little Bit of Crazy Everyday!
Her personal motto? “Everything is fixable.”
Rhys
Electrician
Rhys brings his trademark humour and laid-back attitude to every job, but don’t be fooled — when it comes to anything with cars, motorbikes, or engines, he’s all in. His most underrated tool? The apprentice, of course — a typical Rhys answer.
If he could get his hands on any gadget, he’d go for X-ray glasses to see inside walls (because who hasn’t wished for that?). And if he ever changed careers, he reckons he’d try his luck as a male underwear model?!?! — confidence clearly isn’t in short supply!
He’s heard some golden excuses over the years, but the best has to be: “Thought it was Saturday” (spoiler: it was Tuesday). And nothing makes him grin quite like hearing a customer say, “My mate who’s a sparkie wired this up, I just need you to connect it” — we all know there’s no “mate.”
One of his strangest customer encounters? Turning up for a solar insurance claim only to find the client had installed the whole system themselves — instead of a payout, they got a full disconnection.
Rhys lives by the motto “Same sh*t, different wrapper” and describes his work style as cruisey, often delegating, and then takes all the credit — well, he’s honest, if nothing else!
For him, the best thing about working at Smart Elec is simple: the people and the culture, both in the office and out on site.
Electrician
Glen
Electrician
With years of experience and a calm, can-do attitude, Glen is known around the site as “The Old Wise Man.” He’s happiest working on renovations and new homes, where he can put his practical know-how to good use.
If he could invent one gadget, it’d be something that runs wiring through ceilings (every sparky’s dream). He’s heard plenty of excuses for tardiness, but “had to stop to get a snake off the road” has to be one of the most memorable. A genuine compliment from a customer never fails to make him smile, and on those scorching days, he admits an office job might not be so bad — just for the aircon.
He likes to remind people that electricians aren’t all rich and clean — they get their hands dirty too. Over the years, he’s found some strange things on the job, including a fully made bed in a ceiling — sheets and all!
Not all customer requests are electrical either — he’s been asked to drill holes and hang paintings, and being the helpful bloke he is, he did it without hesitation.
Glen’s work style: Practical, efficient, and neat.
Sam
Electrician
Armed with her flat-blade screwdriver and a trusty pair of pliers—Samantha approaches every project with equal parts practicality, creativity, and transparency. She’s fully in her element when she’s renovating or making repairs, and if she could add just one more tool to her kit, it would be a magic wand to handle all the digging aspects on the job.
On site, Samantha fills the unofficial role of “The Ranga”, fuelled by sweet chilli tenders and a Red Bull. And while some people assume electricians are rolling in cash, she’ll happily set the record straight: “We’re definitely not rich.”
If she weren’t sparking up the electrical world, Samantha imagines she’d be a trade teacher to help train up the next generation of apprentices. When asked iif she could trade jobs for a day, she’d pick Courtney’s spot in the office – but only for a day.
Her motto? “Another day, another 50 cents” (thanks ATO…).
Her reason for loving Smart elec? The teammates – hands down.
Cody
Apprentice Electrician
If there’s a switchboard to be tackled, Cody knows it’s a great day – they’re his favourite job of all time. Cody’s dream tool would be a Milwaukee Bluetooth speaker to ensure the team is happily working while listening to good tunes.
Cody swears he’d happily become a stay-at-home husband in another life, but for now he’s stuck being known as the apprentice punching bag—a title he accepts with suspiciously good humour. He’d trade places with Rhys for a day, purely for the thrill of bossing everyone around.
Cody’s work style is careful, particular, and thorough, and is quick to correct people who sometimes assume electricians get paid to do nothing.
Fuelled by Mareeba kebabs and guided by his personal motto, “20 bucks is 20 bucks,” Cody brings consistency, skill, and plenty of laughs to the team.
Dean
Apprentice Electrician
Dean is in his element when the whole crew is on deck—whole team jobs are what he really enjoys. If life had taken a different turn, you might even find him gliding across the ice as a professional figure skater. And if he could swap roles with anyone on the team for a day, he’d pick Kirsty (our Finance Officer)… just so he could give himself a pay rise.
One customer line that never fails to make him smile is: “While you’re here…” You can almost hear the extra jobs queuing up. Around the team, he’s affectionately known as Mr Forgetful, though he never forgets to grab his favourite lunch: a Gillies Maple Double Bacon Burger. As for food that should be banned on-site? Rhys’ boiled eggs—no further explanation needed.
Professional, fun, and always ready to help, Dean is grateful to be part of a team that loves what they do. His motto sums it up perfectly: “That’s why we’re the best electricians on the Tablelands.”
Best excuse he’s heard for a teammate being late: “My wife’s coffee trailer blew a generator.”
Oliver
Electrician
When there’s work to be done, Oliver’s all about the team effort — he loves those big group jobs where everyone jumps in and makes the magic happen. Ask him his favourite thing about Smart elec and he’ll tell you straight up: the crew (and maybe the banter).
Around site he’s known as “The Bargain Hunter,” because if there’s a deal, a discount, or a clever shortcut (the good kind), Oliver will find it.
His most underrated tool? A small flat screwdriver he treats like a secret weapon. But if he could invent his dream gadget, it’d be a robot that does all the work for him — because honestly, who wouldn’t want a robotic offsider?
If he wasn’t wiring up houses, Oliver reckons he’d be building performance engines, chasing horsepower instead of volts. A simple “thank you” from a customer is enough to make his whole day — and if he could swap jobs with anyone, it’d be Rhys, so he could use his hoist.
He’s already had his fair share of “did that really just happen?” moments, from finding a dead cat in a ceiling to being asked to pour a concrete slab.
The most common misconception he hears about sparkies:
“That being young means you don’t know what you’re doing.”
Nathan
Social Media Manager
Nathan’s the kind of person who genuinely enjoys untangling technical problems and figuring out digital fixes. Give him a challenge to solve and he’s happy.
His approach to work is simple: stay cautious, work efficiently, and break big jobs down into smaller, manageable steps. It’s a system that works well for him — and fits perfectly with his motto: “It always works out in the end.”
He’s also a firm believer that pen white-out deserves more appreciation in the office supplies world, and when lunchtime rolls around, a small sausage roll is usually his go-to choice.
Despite what people might think, Nathan says office life isn’t actually that loud — and one of the things he enjoys most about working at Smart Elec is the friendly team around him.
And if you really want to make his day? A simple “Have a good day!” from a customer always does the trick.
