for Renters
A Queensland Government rebate of up to $3,500 for landlords to install solar on rental properties across the Atherton Tablelands. Smart Elec is your local NETCC Approved installer.

The Queensland Government opened the Supercharged Solar for Renters program on 12 December 2025 to make solar more accessible for the rental market. Landlords get a cash rebate. Tenants get lower electricity bills.
For Landlords

Tenants at eligible properties can expect to save around $700 per year on their electricity bills depending on location and system size.

How much is the rebate?
The rebate amount depends on the capacity of the solar system. Capacity is measured as the lower of the inverter size or total panel size in kilowatts (kW).

The rebate paid is whichever is lower: the system size amount above, or the total amount paid for the system including GST. Rebates are not subject to GST. Once conditional approval is granted, funding is set aside for 150 days. The program is first in, first served.
Who and what qualifies?

Eligible landlords must
- Live in Australia and own the rental property as an individual (not through a trust, SMSF or company)
- Currently be renting the property out and not living in it themselves
- Have written consent from their tenant before applying
- Have body corporate consent if the property is in a body corporate scheme
Eligible rental properties must be
- Located in Queensland and currently tenanted
- A Class 1a building: a house, duplex, townhouse or granny flat (not apartments)
- Rented at $1,000 per week or less with an individually metered electricity supply
- Under a fixed term lease with at least 8 months remaining at the time of final application
- Free of any existing solar system, working or otherwise
Eligible solar systems must
- Be at least 3 kW in capacity
- Be supplied by a New Energy Tech Approved Seller (NETCC) — Smart Elec qualifies
- Use Clean Energy Council approved panels and inverters
- Be designed by a Solar Accreditation Australia accredited system designer
- Include a generation signalling device (GSD) regardless of size
- Be installed by a licensed Queensland electrical contractor holding relevant Solar Accreditation Australia accreditation
Properties and systems that are not eligible
- Apartments and units classified as Class 2 buildings
- Properties already with solar installed (working or not)
- Properties held in a trust, SMSF or other entity
- Properties on embedded networks
- Systems incorporating recycled materials
The application process in plain language
The program runs as a two stage process administered by QRIDA. You must have conditional approval before installation. Smart Elec can prepare your quote and walk you through the paperwork.
Get your quote from Smart Elec
Your quote must come from a New Energy Tech Approved Seller and include the Solar Accreditation Australia number of the system designer, panel and inverter brand details, system size in kW, and total cost. Quotes must be dated on or after 12 December 2025.
Get your tenant's written consent
Your tenant must sign the official Queensland Government tenant acknowledgement and consent form before you apply. Smart Elec can supply you with a copy.
Apply for conditional approval through QRIDA
Lodge your conditional approval application through the QRIDA online portal using your myID (Australian Government Digital ID). Provide your quote, proof of property ownership, tenant consent form, and current lease. QRIDA will assess your application and issue a conditional approval letter if you meet the criteria.
Update your lease and book the installation
Once you have conditional approval you have 150 days to update your tenancy agreement to reference the solar system, arrange and pay for the installation with Smart Elec, and submit your final rebate application. Your updated lease must have at least 8 months remaining and specify who is responsible for system maintenance.
Submit your final application and receive your rebate
Once the system is installed and fully paid, submit your final rebate claim to QRIDA with your updated lease and paid invoice. QRIDA will assess and pay the rebate. Note that some installations will be selected at random for a free safety inspection.

To qualify for the rebate, your solar system must be supplied by a New Energy Tech Approved Seller. Smart Elec holds NETCC accreditation and meets every installation requirement of the program.
